Key Note Speakers

Dr Emilia Dauway FRACS, FACS, Board Cert Gen Surg

Dr. Emilia Dauway is a distinguished former Chief of Breast Surgery and Director of the Breast Cancer Program at Baylor Scott & White Healthcare in Texas. Currently practicing general, breast, and oncologic surgery in Australia, she is an active member of professional organizations, including the Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand. Dr. Dauway earned her degrees from Johns Hopkins University and the University of Illinois, completed her residency at Ochsner Clinic, and pursued a fellowship at Moffitt Cancer Institute. She holds Fellow status in several esteemed surgical societies and was honored with the “Inspirational Woman of the Year 2019” award in recognition of her holistic approach to surgical care.

Dr. Dauway co-invented a patented radioactive seed breast procedure and was the first in Australia to implement Magseed localization, enhancing the safety of breast surgeries. She also founded the non-profit organization Restore More, dedicated to educating women in regional areas about breast cancer treatment options and promoting healthcare equity. One of her organization’s latest initiatives aims to provide breast prostheses to women in Nepal. With two decades of experience, Dr. Dauway underscores the significance of continual learning and innovation to deliver the best practices for her patients, regardless of their geographical location..

Dr Tracy Sexton MD, PhD, FRCPC, Radiation Oncologist and Regional Medical Director, Regional Qld

“As a breast cancer survivor and avid dragonboater I am passionate about helping my patients live their best lives during and after treatment”

Clinical interests in breast cancer, GU cancer, prostate cancer, radiation therapy techniques, and survivorship education.

Tracy earned her medical degree in British Columbia in 2002 after completing her PhD in genetics in 1998. She trained in Radiation Oncology in Ontario and began her career at the London Regional Cancer Program in 2007, serving for 15 years. In 2011, she received an Excellence in Academics Award from The University of Western Ontario. Tracy has also contributed to medical education as the Radiation Oncology Program Director for a decade, aiding in the shift to competency-based medical education. As a 16-year breast cancer survivor, she is dedicated to developing survivorship programs.

Dr. Pammie Ellem,RN, MN (Breast Cancer), PhD. Associate Director for ANMAC (Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council. Associate Supervisor for Higher Degree Research Students. Board member of the Breast and Prostate Cancer Association of Qld.

Advocate for Oncology Care in Rural Areas

Pammie Ellem is a dedicated Registered Nurse and Specialist Breast Care Nurse with a deep passion for oncology care and cancer nursing, particularly in regional, rural, and remote settings.

Growing up in rural Queensland, Pammie has firsthand knowledge of the challenges and strengths that arise from the tyranny of distance faced by those in these communities. Her experience in rural family support and telehealth enhances service delivery to isolated populations, making her a strong advocate for their needs.

Commitment to Research and Education

Another significant interest for Pammie is engaging clinicians in research, empowering her colleagues to participate in research and higher education. This involvement benefits not only their professional growth but also enhances the care provided to their patients. The nursing profession requires more researchers working at the bedside, and Pammie is currently supporting Higher Degree Research (HDR) students at Central Queensland University (CQU). Additionally, she is involved in research focused on aged care and the challenges confronting health clinicians in regional, rural, and remote areas.

Role as an Educator

She has developed and run a Breast and Prostate Cancer Specialist Care nurses Practicum annually aimed at support regional, rural and remote nurses emerging in this field.

Regional Health Care Group – The revolutionary Paxman scalp cooling (or cold cap) technology has been utilised to assist patients and reduce hair loss during chemotherapy.
